N2CKH BIOGRAPHY
Steve began his life long addition with radio when at six years of age his father presented him with a shortwave receiver and he discovered the world of Short Wave Listening (SWL) to include Amateur Radio. He later ventured into utility station monitoring of various modes to include RTTY, which ignited an interest in Cryptology.
Licensed since 1979, first as a Novice, now Extra Class, Steve has held all five license classes, with Novice and General for less than a year and Technician class for ten years. A member of the ARRL since 1979 and the Ocean-Monmouth ARC since 1990, Steve is active in various aspects of Amateur Radio, especially with OMARC and AERIALS. He chases DX on 160-6 meters and is into contesting on HF and VHF/UHF as well. Steve was also into the challenge of DXing via Oscar 10 and 13 when they were in orbit. Since 2001 he has been actively developing an open FM repeater system beginning with his 53.430 repeater to serve the Ocean-Monmouth Amateur community with such features as S.A.M.E. weather alerting and IRLP.
On the professional front, Steve spent 20 years developmenting various systens for the DoD sector. He designed and developed a number of Environment Stress Screening (ESS) Automated Test Equipment (ATE) based systems to include Random Vibration and Shock testing of of various equipments. He also fucntioned as lead Engineer and Project Manager for various Software, Firmware and Electronics projects for weapons, communications and battlefield sensor systems. Currently Steve sells and supports CAD tools for FPGA and ASIC development for Beta Lambda Inc., which markets Mentor Graphics EDA tools. Along the way he worked for ITT Avionics, Lavoire Laboratories, PRC Inc., Engineering and Professional Services (EPS), Sovereign Technologies.
