The 443 repeater is an Open Repeater System. We want all Amateurs to be able to access all the
features of the system for the benefit of the community that we serve.
Being a wide-coverage system subject to a large volume of traffic, we have several
policies which help maintain equitable access to the system. Emergency Communications
by any party, AERIAS members and Control Operators must be given priority on the system
at all times.
Non-members are welcome to use the system, but we ask that they keep in mind that they are
guests, and that other Amateurs, especially AERIALS members, may be waiting to use the system.
During drive time and during adverse weather especially, we ask that non-members keep their
QSO lengths reasonable and give way to member and priority traffic. This is especially true
should the system be in use by any ARES or RACES members or net operation.
Because of the repeater systems wide geographic coverage area, many Amateurs use the system
as means of keeping in touch with other Amateurs across far distances, especially when IRLP
is brought into use. Next to Emergeny Communications, this is one of the primary objectives
of the system. Many transient non-members use the system in this manner when traveling through
the coverage area, or for keeping weekly skeds with friends out of their area. Non-members are
welcome to use the system for this purpose. However, we ask that non-members avoid tying up the
system for lengthy periods of time, especially if their QSO could instead be carried out on a
simplex channel or on a local-coverage only repeater. As always, Emergency traffic has priority
above everything else.
AERIALS 443 Repeater User Codes
Please note, the IRLP connect and disconnect codes can only be used IF the system has been
placed into IRLP mode by a Control Operator. If you wish to use IRLP and 443 is not in that
mode simply make a transmission and request assistance from a Control Operator.
Feel free to pass a copy of the user codes along to your fellow licensed Amateurs. However,
please remember not to discuss the IRLP codes over the repeater during an IRLP connection.

IRLP Operation:
ALWAYS listen to the system for a few minutes before making any transmissions.
If you are hearing people talk with callsigns and accents far away from NJ and no courtesy
tone then the system is already connected to the IRLP. At present there is currently NO courtesy
tone when in IRLP mode. The repeater controller MUST be in IRLP mode to initiate an outoging
IRLP connection, however an incoming IRLP connection can be made at any time.
The following are examples on how to control the IRLP Node for Connect and Disconnect only
using the standard IRLP connect and disconnect as detailed on the User Codes instruction
sheet.
Note: The repeater system must already be connected to the N2CKH/R hub
and the IRLP port on the hub must be active before the following will work. At
present on 443 there will be no hang time or repeater generated courtesy tones
when in IRLP, when you key and transmit and unkey the sytssem will immediately
drop out until someone else locally or remote via IRLP transmits.
IRLP Connections: (Node - Check the IRLP node list for all node IDs)
With the repeater in IRLP mode key enter the IRLP Connect Code for the IRLP Node or Reflector
of interest.
When an IRLP session is in process and you want to join in remember to leave a 1-2 second
pause before keying your mic to allow another node to disconnect.
When you key your mic you MUST wait a full four (4) seconds before transmitting via 443.
As an example, when the IRLP port is active (currenly no courtesy tone and no hang time)
to connect to Reflector 2 in Denver you would:
"State CALLSIGN accessing IRLP reflector 2"
Then hit the required DTMF tones and unkey. The IRLP reflector 2 connect message will come
up. You are now live on the reflector.
To drop the connection to Reflector 2 you would need to get in when no one on the reflector
is currently transmitting and:
"State CALLSIGN dropping reflector 2"
Then hit the required DTMF tones to drop the connection and unkey.
The IRLP reflector 2 disconnect message will come up. You are now disconnected from
the reflector, however the IRLP port at N2CKH/R is still active. Please do NOT hesitate
to ask any questions or make any comments.
Feel free to use and enjoy the IRLP system as it is open for all licensed Amateurs to use and enjoy.
